The object of the Legion of Mary is the glory of God through the holiness of its members developed by prayer and active co-operation in Mary’s and the Church’s work. The unit of the Legion of Mary is called a Praesidium, which holds a weekly meeting, where prayer is intermingled with reports and discussion.
The Legion of Mary has been active in this Parish for ten years at the present time and most of our members have been in the Praesidium since it started.
Our members are very active in teaching Catechism in the State Schools and taking Holy Communion to the sick and elderly in the Parish, and also to those parishioners that are in hospital or in a nursing home.
We appeal to the wider Parish community and hope more men and women join us. It is such a rewarding task to take on, working for our Blessed Lord, as if we were Mary.
We commit to say the Catena each day which is not a very long prayer. We commit to attend the weekly meeting and give an adequate and audible report of the work done. We pledge absolute secrecy with regard to any matters discussed at the meeting and we pledge that in those worked for and in one’s fellow members, the person of Our Lord is once again seen and served by Mary, His mother.
Our meetings are at 5.00pm on a Thursday night and the duration is set down as no longer than 90 minutes. We often have a cuppa after the meeting. Drivers would be most welcome, but this is not a requisite at all just the desire to increase your own spirituality and to be a help in our Parish.
If you would like to become a member of the Legion of Mary please contact the Parish Office on 9667 3040.
